Subject: | Recognizing the Importance of Mentorship on Pennsylvania’s Youth |
Reflect on your childhood for a moment and think of all the people that have had a profound impact on your life: a teacher, older sibling, family friend, religious leader, or perhaps a Scout leader. All these people are mentors and provide a critical support for children and youth in Pennsylvania. For this reason, I am introducing a resolution to recognize the importance of mentor-mentee relationships as well as the important work of organizations to assist these relationships in Pennsylvania. It has been shown that mentors have a positive long-term effect on children by improving academic engagement and performance, boosting confidence, building character, encouraging success, and decreasing the likelihood of substance abuse or other risky behaviors. Young people rely on mentors to guide them through periods of crucial development in their lives and to ensure they are making wise choices for their futures. Now is the time to showcase how mentorships strengthen communities across the Commonwealth and I ask that you join me in this effort and support this resolution. |
