MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 7, 2019 10:43 AM
From: Representative Stephen Kinsey and Rep. Austin A. Davis
To: All House members
Subject: Novembeard Month

As 2019 soon ends, the American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 175,000 patients will have been diagnosed with prostate cancer in the United States this year. In Pennsylvania, prostate cancer is the most common cancer found in men and the third most common cause of cancer-related deaths among male residents. Racial and age disparities are prevalent in prostate cancer cases, as the disease is typically found in black men and men aged 65 or older.

As November is upon us, it is important to keep those individuals in mind by bringing back a celebrated tradition. During “Novembeard Month,” which joins the “No-Shave November” observation, participants forgo shaving for the entire month to spread cancer awareness and bring attention to men’s health issues. To honor the tradition, we plan to introduce a resolution recognizing November 2019 as “Novembeard Month” in Pennsylvania to raise awareness of prostate cancer.

It is our hope that you will join us in this effort to further promote the health and well-being of Pennsylvanians. To any interested participants, we challenge you to refrain from shaving for the entire month. Thank you for your interest and consideration on this issue.
