MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: Childhood Brain Stem Glioma Awareness Month/ Jax Stone Day (November 2019)

Jax Stone, a young boy ten years of age and an Erie native, tragically passed away on July 27, 2014, following a courageous battle with brain stem glioma. Jax was loved by his community and was awarded for the bravery and compassion he exemplified. Regrettably, there are limited treatment options for brain stem glioma, which involves the sudden and rapid growth of tumors on the brain stem, and often, prognoses are poor.

In honor of Jax’s memory and the need for increased education and awareness of brain stem glioma, I am introducing a resolution to designate the month of November 2019 as “Childhood Brain Stem Glioma Awareness Month.” My proposal also designates November 11, 2019, Jax’s birthday, as “Jax Stone Day” in Pennsylvania.

It is imperative that this legislature take steps to encourage further research and awareness in order to afford children diagnosed with brain stem glioma a better chance at survival. Please join in this fight for Pennsylvania children suffering from this debilitating condition. It is our duty as public servants to make the health and safety of children in this Commonwealth a top legislative priority.

Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
