MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 1, 2019 02:10 PM
From: Representative Jim Cox
To: All House members
Subject: American Made Matters Day in PA

Since 2013, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives has recognized November 19 as “American Made Matters Day.” This year, I have the honor of introducing a resolution recognizing November 19, 2019 as “American Made Matters Day” in Pennsylvania.

On November 19th, individuals and businesses will be encouraged to buy at least one American-made product to show their support of American manufacturing. The National Association of Manufacturers report that every $1 spent on American-made goods invests an additional $1.81 in the U.S. economy. If each American dedicated just a small portion of their holiday shopping budget to buying American-made goods, it could have a tremendously positive impact on our economy. In fact, according to ABC News, if each American family spent just an extra $49.95 on American-made goods, the spending would generate 150,000 American jobs.

I believe it is important to highlight the outstanding benefit that American manufacturing has on jobs, local communities, the United States economy, product safety and the future of America. Products made in America must follow American consumer protection laws and safety standards. Many foreign countries have far less extensive product safety standards than those in the United States, frequently leading to recalls and safety issues.

Please join me in promoting and honoring the consumers and businesses that understand that American Made Matters!
