| Subject: | Urging Congress to Establish a National Infrastructure Bank |
| We are in the midst of an infrastructure crisis. In 2018, the American Society of Civil Engineers gave Pennsylvania a cumulative “C-” infrastructure grade across 18 categories that included a “D+” grade for roads, a “D” grade for drinking water, and a “D-” grade for wastewater treatment. In addition, the report noted that traffic congestion in our state results in over $3.7 billion in lost time and wasted fuel annually. And, sadly, this trend is mirrored throughout the United States. I’m introducing a resolution urging Congress to fix this problem through the creation of a National Infrastructure Bank. Such a concept is as old as the nation itself and has been used by Presidents George Washington, John Quincy Adams, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin Roosevelt to finance the roads, bridges, canals, roadways, schools, hospitals, and power systems that made our country the envy of the world. The investments from a National Infrastructure Bank would restart various industries, create millions of new jobs, and supply the needed financing to repair our crumbling infrastructure. Join me in supporting this resolution and in calling on Congress to fix this national crisis. |
