MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 17, 2019 10:22 AM
From: Representative Eddie Day Pashinski
To: All House members
Subject: "National Hunting and Fishing Day" in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing September 28, 2019, as “National Hunting and Fishing Day” in Pennsylvania.

Conserving the Commonwealth’s wildlife and natural resources continues to be one of the most important responsibilities owed to future generations. Hunters and anglers were among the first conservationists to realize this responsibility more than 100 years ago, witnessing how expanding communities and unregulated exploitation of wildlife and natural resources caused disastrous declines in species’ populations in the Commonwealth. Pennsylvania’s hunters and anglers began taking steps to reverse this trend by helping to establish laws providing for the protection of wildlife and sound management practices. In addition, hunters and anglers supported laws that established special hunting and fishing license fees, as well as taxes on equipment to pay for conservation and protection programs.

The idea of devoting a special day to honor sportsmen for their leading role in the conservation of fish, wildlife, and other natural resources originated with Pennsylvanian Ira Joffe. In addition to recognizing September 28, 2019, as “National Hunting and Fishing Day,” this resolution would urge all Pennsylvanians to participate in activities associated with “National Hunting and Fishing Day.”

I hope you will join with me in co-sponsoring and supporting this resolution.
