Subject: | SepticSmart Week Resolution |
Each year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) designates a week in September as “SepticSmart Week” to provide information to consumers about the importance of properly using and maintaining septic systems in order to protect their health and public water resources. Approximately 40% of Pennsylvania residents use septic systems, which are an environmentally friendly means of household waste water disposal. These systems safely rely on beneficial bacteria to breakdown waste from home water usage and importantly enable many communities to avoid overtaxing municipal wastewater treatment facilities. Therefore, my resolution will support the efforts of the EPA and industry representatives to improve septic system education among homeowners by designating September 16-20, 2019, as “SepticSmart Week” in Pennsylvania. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this resolution. If you have any questions, please contact Pam Neugard at pneugard@pahousegop.com or 717-783-1707. |
