MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 7, 2019 01:26 PM
From: Representative Jason Ortitay
To: All House members
Subject: School Business Manager

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to amend the Public School Code to establish minimum educational standards for a school business manager.

Specifically, to serve as a school business administrator or in an equivalent position, the individual must have at minimum a baccalaureate degree with at least twelve (12) credit hours relevant to the financial or management functions of a business administrator.

A school entity may hire an individual that does not have at least 12 relevant credit hours if the individual agrees to obtain said credits within eighteen months from the hiring date or the individual has at least three years of school business experience.

If the individual does not have a baccalaureate degree, a school entity may hire the individual if they agree to obtain a baccalaureate degree that includes 12 relevant credit hours within sixty months from the hiring date or the individual has at least ten years of school business experience.

A current business administrator or relevant position who does not process a baccalaureate degree or five years of school business experience are exempt.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
