Subject: | Perishable Medical Supply Legislation |
I will soon be introducing legislation to permit producers of flu vaccines and immunizations to travel on highways during a declared disaster emergency. Many businesses and citizens within our Commonwealth witnessed firsthand the negative impacts brought upon vital industries due to such travel restrictions. Particularly, during last year’s commercial travel bans, hundreds of flu vaccines and immunizations ready for transit were forced to be destroyed because they exceeded the FDA’s maximum amount of time allowed to be in transport. As a result, patients were not able to receive their scheduled vaccines and immunizations. Any situation like this presents a potential public health concern to our Commonwealth. This problem is easily addressed by permitting flu vaccine and immunization producers to be exempt from commercial travel bans. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this important legislation. |
