Subject: Tax Relief for Working Parents Needing Child Care

Today’s economy means parents are working harder than ever – sometimes in multiple jobs – and are more in need of quality, affordable child care than ever. For too many parents the cost of affordable child care can completely consume a paycheck, and the alternative is a parent leaving the workforce to care for the child at home, and that’s a situation where nobody wins.

My Tax Relief for Working Parents Act would allow working parents with kids under age 5 in qualified child care programs to offset their state income taxes – cutting their tax bill to zero when they need the money the most – and set up a ten-year, interest-free repayment plan. The kids get great child care, the parents get to keep working and advancing in their careers, and the state doesn’t miss out on one dime of revenue – in fact, these parents will have the peace of mind they need to advance in their careers and earn higher salaries and new positions.

The question we have to ask ourselves is: do we really support working families and kids, or do we just talk about it. This puts our money where it belongs – invested in a brighter future for working families and our next generation of citizens. I urge you to co-sponsor and support this truly family-friendly effort.
