Subject: | Lake Erie Groin Structure |
Pennsylvanians in Erie County are fortunate to have quick access to Lake Erie – a 46-mile strip stretching from the Ohio and New York border. This area gives residents and visitors access to a beautiful coast as well as the Presque Isle State Park. The responsibility to maintain this shoreline falls on our Commonwealth agencies, local government, and private individuals. One method for preserving the shoreline are groins – structures used to stabilize a stretch of beach against erosion. These water structures have been used by the DCNR on Presque Isle as well as others along the shoreline. Because these water structures are not defined in statute, they fall under the category of commercial structures. My bill would exempt people from having to pay an annual fee for these water structures – an exemption already applicable for structures constructed, owned or operated by a department. Please join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation. |
