Subject: | Recognizing National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in PA |
Adult literacy goes beyond the ability to read a book or complete a basic math problem. For 13% of Pennsylvania adults, literacy has become a barrier to reading medical prescriptions, receiving a livable wage to support their families, securing affordable housing, and preparing their children for the future. For three out of four Pennsylvania jobs, an education beyond a high school level is required. Adult literacy must be a part of the conversation as we continue to discuss the need for workforce development and helping individuals out of poverty. To that end, we are introducing a resolution recognizing National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in Pennsylvania from September 22 to September 28. Please join us in acknowledging the need for state and national support efforts to ensure that every individual has the necessary literacy skills to succeed at home, at work, and in society. |
