Subject: Making Jury Duty Affordable

Recently I received a letter from a hard-working mother who was selected for jury duty. She informed me that each day she served as a juror she had to pay $20 to park and only received a $9 paycheck from the county. To make matters worse, her employer did not provide any compensation for her time away from work.

Pennsylvanians and their families should not have to lose money or pinch their pennies when serving as a juror. In addition, we want jurors to be focused on the case presented to them, not the financial stress caused as a result of serving.

It is our responsibility to correct this problem and to make jury duty as easy as possible. As such, I hope you will support me in my legislative efforts to provide free parking and paid time off to selected jurors.
