| We will soon be reintroducing legislation to call a constitutional convention regarding term limits for Congress. Under the Article V convention process of the U.S. Constitution, if two-thirds (34) of the states call for an amendment proposal convention for the sole purpose of proposing term limits, a term limits convention is called. Any resulting proposed constitutional amendment would then require three-fourths (38) of the states to ratify it before it can become part of the U.S. Constitution. A number of states have initiated a movement to impose term limits on Congress through a term limits convention limited to proposing a term limit amendment to the U.S. Constitution, applicable to members of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Other states are in the process of considering their own resolutions. We believe a concurrent resolution making an application to Congress, on behalf of the people of Pennsylvania, to call an Article V convention for proposing a congressional term limits amendment is the ideal mechanism for limiting the number of terms an individual may serve as a member of either the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate. Please join us in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation to ensure our federal government is adhering to the original intention of the U.S. Constitution. |
