MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 14, 2019 11:31 AM
From: Representative Brad Roae
To: All House members
Subject: House Resolution to Change House Rules to End Practice of House Members Leasing State Vehicles

In the near future, I will introduce a Resolution that will change the House Rules to end the practice of House Members from being able to obtain a state leased or state owned auto.

My previous House Bill 482 was legislation to enact an actual law to ban state leased vehicles for legislators. This request is to change the House Rules to ban the practice.

Part of the Rule regarding Member Expenses would be amended to read:

“The Chief Clerk is no longer authorized to enter into a master lease agreement with the Department of General Services for the long-term lease or purchase of automobiles for Members effective 09/01/2019. No vehicles can be assigned to Members after 09/01/2019. The Chief Clerk is authorized to maintain the leases for automobiles assigned to Members prior to 09/01/2019. Members are not required to surrender vehicles leased before 09/01/2019. When a vehicle leased prior to 09/01/2019 is no longer practical to keep in service due to age, high mileage, needed repairs or being damaged the vehicle shall be surrendered but the Member is not eligible to get a replacement leased vehicle after 09/01/2019.”

I greatly appreciate your support of this Resolution. Thank you for your consideration.
