MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 28, 2019 10:42 AM
From: Representative Perry S. Warren
To: All House members
Subject: The 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing

In the midst of the Cold War, the “Space Race” between the United States and Soviet Union propelled our country towards the unprecedented mission to put a man on the moon. Eight years following President Kennedy declaring his goal to land on the moon before the end of the 1960s, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the first human steps on the lunar surface.

“That’s one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind,” were the words famously uttered by Neil Armstrong as he first stepped onto the moon’s surface. As millions watched on television, the world witnessed humankind enter unchartered territory. Such technological pioneering serves to be honored, as it launched the United States into the lead ahead of not only the Soviets, but the rest of the world.

Please join me in commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing on July 20, 2019, and recognizing those whose tireless efforts made the United States a frontrunner in space exploration.
