Subject: | Resolution designating September 2019 as “Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania |
I will be introducing a resolution designating September 2019 as “Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. It is estimated that 22,530 American women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year and 13,980 women will die as a result. A woman’s risk of developing ovarian cancer during her lifetime is 1 in 78 and her chance of dying is about 1 in 108. Only about 20% are found at an early stage, when 9 out of 10 women treated will live longer than five years. Because there is no single test that will diagnose this cancer, many women do not receive the diagnosis until late in its development. Ovarian cancer is difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are subtle and are often misinterpreted by both women and physicians. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution to help raise awareness of ovarian cancer. |
