MEMORANDUM

To: All House members
Subject: Commemorating 100 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between Poland and the United States

Strong diplomatic relations that have endured decades should be celebrated and recognized for their enduring history. After Poland regained its independence in 1919, the country was able to re-establish itself in the political and economic landscape, aligning itself with the United States. Such alliance has withstood a century most-notably marked by war, global tension, and economic peril.
As a result of Woodrow Wilson’s “fourteen points” and his strong urge to assist Poland in restoring its sovereignty, President Wilson welcomed the first Polish ambassador to the United States in 1920. A NATO and EU member, Poland has continued its rooted connection with the United States as well as other democratic countries who encourage freedom and economic development and success for its citizens. Poland and the United States proudly offer a robust educational partnership, allowing the opportunity to travel and study abroad for thousands of students over the course of the last 60 years.
The dynamic exchange of shared educational, political, and economic values has led to a prosperous foundation between the two countries and has led to the strong Polish American community here in Pennsylvania, which has been able to preserve and promote the Polish heritage for future generations to come.
Please join me in supporting this opportunity to commemorate 100 years of diplomatic relations between Poland and the United States and recognizing the large Polish American community in our Commonwealth.
