Subject: Recognizing May 18-24, 2019, as “National Safe Boating Week” in Pennsylvania
 
Because of the 85,000 miles of rivers and streams and 735 miles of shoreline, boating is a popular recreational activity in Pennsylvania. When proper care is not taken, however, boating can become dangerous. In 2017, there were 4,291 boating accidents reported in the United States, in addition to 658 reported deaths. Of those deaths, nearly 85 percent were not wearing a life jacket.

In an effort to bring attention to the importance of boating safety, I will be introducing a resolution designating the week of May 18-24, 2019, as “National Safe Boating Week” in Pennsylvania. The week is set aside annually as an opportunity to discuss the importance of wearing life vests and overall boating safety.

Please join me in helping keep Pennsylvania boaters safe by supporting this important legislation.
