Subject: | Designating May 2019 as "Cancer Caregivers Recognition Month" |
Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be devastating, not only for the individual who receives the unfortunate news, but also for their closest family and friends. Behind every cancer patient, there is often a tireless and courageous caregiver sacrificing their days to stand beside their loved one through the exhausting tests and treatments. Often a parent, sibling, spouse, or child takes on the role of a cancer caregiver, putting their quality of life second. As we all know, cancer can be a long and grueling journey, with extreme highs and lows mentally, physically and financially. Caring for an individual with cancer often replaces an individual’s full-time job, threatening their own financial health and compounding the burden of the medical costs that come with a cancer diagnosis. However, cancer caregivers continue to find pride and purpose in their service to the close friend or family member. Many cancer patients are deeply grateful to their caregivers for their love and dedication, weathering the challenges and setbacks of cancer treatment and sharing the triumphs with them. To honor these caregivers and show them that their compassion and diligent efforts do not go unnoticed, we will be introducing a resolution designating May 2019 as “Cancer Caregivers Recognition Month.” No one should have to fight cancer alone, and we applaud those who choose to step up and commit themselves to caring for an individual in their biggest time of need. Please join us in supporting this important resolution. |
