Subject: | Designating May 11, 2019 as “National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day” |
One in six American households – nearly 49 million individuals, including 13 million children and about five million senior citizens – do not know where their next meal will come from. These individuals suffer from hunger daily even while living in the wealthiest nation on the planet. To combat this travesty, the National Association of Letter Carriers holds its annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive where letter carriers collect nonperishable food donations as they deliver mail, donations that are then delivered to food banks and shelters. I am introducing a resolution designating May 11, 2019, as “National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day” to recognize the great work done through this drive. Thanks to the generous donations of individuals throughout our nation, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has collected and delivered more than 1.6 billion pounds of food to help hungry families over the past 27 years. Support this resolution and join me in recognizing the efforts being made to combat food insecurity in our county and in our state. |
