Subject:	"Women's Lung Health Week" Resolution

I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing the week of May 12th thru May 18th, 2019 as "Women's Lung Health Week." According to the American Lung Association, every five minutes a woman learns she has lung cancer. More than half of all women diagnosed with lung cancer will be alive one year after their diagnosis. While the lung cancer death rate among men has decreased 29% in the last 39 years, it has increased 102% among women. Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of both women and men in the United States. Lung cancer must be a national priority due to the highest incidence rate and one of the lowest survival rate. Awareness, early detection and treatment are crucial in the prevention or reduction of the spread of lung cancer and lung disease in this country. The American Lung Association's LUNG FORCE initiative seeks to increase women's awareness of lung cancer as the number one cancer killer and save lives through risk reduction, early detection and new treatment options. Through public awareness, this Commonwealth seeks to minimize the devastating effects of lung cancer among all Pennsylvania citizens. Please join me in recognizing the week of May 12th thru May 18th, 2019 as "Women's Lung Health Week."
