Subject: | Funding for Nursing Homes |
Many Pennsylvanians cannot easily afford the high cost of nursing home care, which can cost over $120,000 per year on average. Our state’s Medicaid program has become a very common source of funding for long-term care of our loved ones, with over two-thirds of nursing home residents depending upon the health insurance program. I call on Congress to consider increasing the Medicaid funding rates for nursing homes in Pennsylvania. Changes to the federal funding given to states through our Medicaid program could seriously limit access to quality nursing home care for the people of Pennsylvania. This dangerous change could lead to further reductions in nurse staffing and poor care outcomes for our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians. As stewards of public health, we must ensure that Pennsylvania’s older adults and their families do not have to worry about this tremendous financial burden when considering nursing home placement. I invite you to join me in supporting this legislation. Thank you. |
