Subject: | Increasing Maximum Fines for Littering |
Litter and debris on roads and highways are a detriment to the health and safety of drivers. Trash of any kind can distract drivers, causing them to swerve and hit larger objects, causing accidents that can senselessly take the lives of innocent Pennsylvanians. In addition, litter clean-up costs our Commonwealth millions of dollars. My legislation would increase the maximum amount of each littering fine, creating a higher payment potential depending on where the littering occurred. In an extra effort to reduce littering, it would provide that five percent of the money allocated from these fines will be used to create signs that alert drivers of the increased penalties alongside Pennsylvania roadways. It is our duty as public servants to secure the health and safety of our constituents. Please join me in supporting legislation that works to accomplish both. |
