MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 18, 2019 10:03 AM
From: Representative Clint Owlett
To: All House members
Subject: Legislation to Repeal Outdated Statutes

Our Commonwealth has thousands of regulations on the books. Many of these acts were enacted several decades ago and are simply archaic and are no longer applicable in the 21st century. In addition, the existence of these outdated laws contributes to the already complex and confusing nature of government.

To help clean up our laws, I plan to introduce legislation that will repeal two of these antiquated acts:
  • Act 118 of 1893 and Act 140 of 1943 which regulate the purchase of ground and construction of school buildings for the Scotland School for Veteran’s Children.

This state-created school was eventually discontinued in 2009, the facilities were sold, and the existing statutes are now obsolete.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to provide the citizens of this Commonwealth with a more transparent and streamlined rule of law.

Introduced as HB1031
