Subject:	Resolution – Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution proclaiming the week of April 7 -13, 2019 as Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Pennsylvania. As you know, Pennsylvania has a very robust set of laws to address the needs of crime victims. Our Office of Victim Advocate energetically assists crime victims during all of the stages of their ordeal. In the latest year for which we have statistics, we know that at least 750,000 Pennsylvanians were victimized by crime, with nearly 300,000 of those being violent crimes. While that is down slightly from the previous year, it still demonstrates the vast need that exists in our communities for the services provided by victim advocates. I believe it is extremely important that the General Assembly recognize the contribution that is made by our current victims’ advocate network and reaffirm its commitment to ensure that there is an equal commitment to the rights of both victims and the accused. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
