MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 4, 2019 03:21 PM
From: Representative Patrick J. Harkins
To: All House members
Subject: National Crime Victims' Rights Week Resolution April 7 through 13, 2019

Any of us can become the victim of a violent crime. In 2017, there were approximately 5.6 million violent crimes committed in the United States. Victims and their families are no less deserving of justice, rights, resources, restoration and rehabilitation than the offenders who commit these crimes. Serving the victims of crime and ensuring justice for all will make our homes, neighborhoods, and communities safer and stronger.

My resolution designates the week of April, as “National Crime Victims’ Rights Week” in Pennsylvania. Each year, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime helps lead communities throughout the country in their observance of “National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.” This occasion provides an opportunity for concerned citizens, service providers, and criminal justice officials to come together to raise awareness of and celebrate the hard-won progress in victims’ rights and services.

Please join me in recognizing the observance of “National Crime Victims’ Rights Week” and in supporting victims of crime throughout this Commonwealth and the nation. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
