Subject: | Healthy Workplace Act |
Pennsylvanians work hard. Many of us spend more time at our workplace than we do with our families and friends, so it is vital that we feel valued and supported at work. Workplace bullying is an all too common occurrence and can take several forms, including verbal abuse, physical abuse, undermining an employee’s work performance, or other offensive behaviors designed to threaten, humiliate, or intimidate. My bill would provide relief to targets of workplace bullying that do not already fit into a protected class under the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act. Employees that have been subjected to an abusive work environment would be eligible for relief, which includes reinstatement, reimbursement for lost wages and medical expenses, compensation for pain and suffering, punitive damages, and attorney fees. Bullying does not magically disappear when we finish school, though it may no longer be as visible. Workplace bullying ruins careers and disrupts workplaces. Let’s work together to make Pennsylvania’s workplaces safe and healthy for all workers. |
