Subject: | Authorizing a Project 70 Land Transfer in Whitehall Township |
In the recent past, a municipality in my district, Whitehall Township, approached Lehigh County in hopes of purchasing land from the county near Jordan Creek to extend its greenway project – a project that respects the environmental beauty of this land and ensures its use remains for recreational purchases. The county agreed to transfer the land to Whitehall Township, but hit a snag when they realized that Project 70 funds had been used to purchase the land in 1971. “Project 70” is an act that allows for the acquisition of lands for recreational, conservation, and historical preservation purposes through state approval and assistance. Because Lehigh County used state funding through Project 70 to obtain this land, it is unable to transfer the land to Whitehall Township without first receiving approval from the state legislature. I am introducing a bill to provide this authorization. My legislation allows for this land transfer and is identical to a bill that passed the Senate unanimously last session. Join me in supporting this commonsense legislation and help cut the red tape that is preventing this simple land transfer |
Introduced as HB739
