MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 8, 2019 11:07 AM
From: Representative Justin M. Walsh
To: All House members
Subject: Cosponsor Memo: Welfare Reform – Accrued Benefits Termination

In the near future I plan to reintroduce legislation that would provide welfare allotments that are not used by the eligible individual or family will be forfeited after a six month period.

Currently, welfare recipients are not required by state or federal law to use their benefits each month. Our public assistance programs are designed to help those who are in most need. I would argue that welfare allotments that are not being used in a timely manner are not truly needed. Moreover, allowing welfare allotments to remain dormant gives rise to incidents of the allotments being used by unauthorized individuals for unscrupulous purposes.

Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB848
