Subject: Commemorating Thaddeus Stevens
 
Thaddeus Stevens was a lifelong public servant dedicated to ensuring justice, equality and opportunity for all citizens. He had a hand in the preservation of public education, putting an end to slavery, and the reconstruction of the South following the Civil War.

It is because of his impact on Pennsylvania and the United States that I am introducing a resolution designating April 4, 2019 as Thaddeus Stevens Day in Pennsylvania. The date is the 227th anniversary of the birth of this statesman, civil rights activist and philanthropist.

Please join in me commemorating Stevens’ contributions to this commonwealth and nation by cosponsoring this resolution.
