Subject: | Pediatric Cancer Research Registration Plate |
We cured polio in Pennsylvania, why can't we cure cancer! We must commit to leading the world to fund a cure for pediatric cancer. Our Commonwealth is blessed with some of the most advanced research institutions and some of the leading pediatric oncologists in the world. If we provide funding to these researchers, I am confident they will discover a cure for pediatric cancer. I will be introducing legislation to establish a Pediatric Cancer Research registration plate to be offered by the Department of Transportation. This bill will direct the Department to develop a plate in consultation with relevant stakeholders and collect a fee from individuals interested in supporting Pediatric Cancer Research. The funds raised will be deposited into a fund to be distributed to institutions within the Commonwealth conducting Pediatric Cancer Research. Seven children will die today from cancer. Another 46 children will be diagnosed with cancer today and 1 in 5 of them will eventually die from cancer. Pediatric cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children ages 1-14 and the average age of death for a child with cancer is 8. Please co-sponsor this legislation. |
