| As stewards of public health, it is important that we consider legislative solutions that increase access to care for everyone, especially the underserved areas of our state, while maintaining patient safety and standard of care. With this responsibility in mind, as well as the men, women, and children of Pennsylvania, We plan to introduce legislation to establish guidelines for the delivery of telemedicine in the Commonwealth. As you may know, telemedicine is the remote delivery of healthcare services and medical information using telecommunications technology. This innovative and compassionate form of care is being utilized more frequently and in many different aspects of healthcare. Most importantly, telemedicine oftentimes improves the quality of healthcare and allows services to be provided where it would not be otherwise be available. Simply put, telemedicine improves healthcare and makes it more accessible. Post-surgical care is made more effective by additional monitoring. Follow-up care can be offered without requiring the patient to travel to the physician’s office. Mental health services can be provided to students without the student missing classes and without the parent missing work. Dental screening and education can be provided to children when a dentist is not available for the visit. Please consider supporting our legislation to make telemedicine a reality for the people of Pennsylvania.
