| Subject: | E-Verify for the Private Construction Industry |
| The exploitation of unauthorized workers hurts all Pennsylvanians. Other workers lose out on pay and benefits as unethical employers seek to undermine the labor market. Employers that follow the rules are put at a disadvantage. My bill would require employers in the private construction industry to verify that current employees and new hires are legally permitted to work in the United States via the Social Security Number Verification System and the E-Verify Program. This will prevent employers from exploiting unauthorized workers. E-Verify has already been successfully implemented for public works contractors in Pennsylvania. This legislation is a logical next step and will level the playing field for workers and employers in the Commonwealth. Please join me in protecting all of Pennsylvania’s workers. |
