House of Representatives
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 7, 2019 02:02 PM
From: Representative Angel Cruz
To: All House members
Subject: License to Operate a Government Vehicle

The Commonwealth and various other public entities spend considerable resources annually on the maintenance of vehicle fleets. The liability costs to operate these represent substantial resources. Ensuring governmental vehicles are operated in a safe manner is of paramount importance.

However, often, the drivers of these vehicles are not required to show proof of a valid driver’s license as a condition of ongoing employment. My legislation will require all public officers and employees to provide proof of a valid license to the appropriate governmental unit or employer each year. It is my hope this legislation will help keep suspended drivers and others who could pose significant harm to Pennsylvania drivers off the streets and ensure only qualified drivers operate governmental vehicles.

Please join me in in cosponsoring this important safety measure.
