House of Representatives
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 2, 2019 01:41 PM
From: Representative Robert Freeman
To: All House members
Subject: Auditor General to Conduct Audits of General Assembly

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that would require the Auditor General to audit the financial affairs of the General Assembly and its legislative service agencies. The Auditor General would be permitted to perform special audits if deemed necessary as well. Copies of all audits would be submitted to the President pro tempore of the Senate, Minority Leader of the Senate, Speaker of the House and the Minority Leader of the House.

Currently, the financial affairs of the General Assembly and its legislative service agencies are audited by a certified public accounting firm, which is retained by the Legislative Audit Advisory Commission. Having the duly elected Auditor General perform this responsibility would save money and insure greater accountably.

If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Brianna Medevich in my office by e-mail at bmedevic@pahouse.net or by telephone at 717-783-3815.
