MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 2, 2019 01:26 PM
From: Representative Robert Freeman
To: All House members
Subject: Property Tax Circuit Breakers

In the near future, I will introduce legislation that would amend Pennsylvania’s Constitution to allow for property tax circuit breakers in Pennsylvania.

Property tax “circuit breakers” are really quite simple, it protects taxpayers from a property tax “overload” just like an electric circuit breaker. Specifically, my legislation will allow the General Assembly to establish standards and qualifications to exempt a taxpayer from the payment of the portion of real property tax levied by a local taxing authority that exceeds a percentage threshold amount of the household income of the taxpayer.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation, as I firmly believe that this proposal will offer Pennsylvania’s citizens much needed property tax relief.

If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Brianna Medevich in my office by e-mail at bmedevic@pahouse.net or by telephone at 717-783-3815.

Introduced as HB2074
