MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 19, 2018 03:35 PM
From: Representative Ryan A. Bizzarro
To: All House members
Subject: Prohibiting Board Member Compensation for Public Officials

In Pennsylvania, at least 54% of legislators receive outside sources of income, often from industries that these same elected officials are tasked with regulating. Although legislators are required to disclose personal or private interests in any bill and abstain from any vote taken on the matter, this rarely happens.

To combat this problem and give the power back to the people of Pennsylvania, I am introducing legislation that prohibits public officials and employees from receiving compensation (not including reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses) for service on a corporate or nonprofit board.

Public officials should respond to the needs of hard-working Pennsylvanians and their families, not wealthy special interests. As such, I ask that you join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to help reform and increase the integrity of our state government.
