MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 3, 2018 03:46 PM
From: Representative Christopher B. Quinn
To: All House members
Subject: Curbside Voting for People With Disabilities (Former HB 2660)

In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation that would allow for curbside voting for people with disabilities. At least 24 other states across the nation have permitted curbside voting, and it is time for Pennsylvania to do the same. As many of you know, the accessibility of polling places varies widely across Pennsylvania, so it can be difficult to maneuver a wheelchair or walker into the voting booth – especially if the disabled voter arrives at the polling place without a wheelchair.

It is our duty as legislators to empower election officials to provide a safe and private way for people with disabilities to vote at their polling places if they 1) have not completed an absentee ballot in time and 2) have managed to physically get themselves to the polling place. 24 other states around the country offer this important service and it's time for Pennsylvania to follow suit and do everything possible to help citizens vote. This legislation will:

*Provide a better service to people with disabilities at polling locations
*Significantly help our aging population who use wheelchairs and/or walkers
*Encourage more people to come to their polling place to vote

Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation.

Introduced as HB134
