Subject: | Resolution Recognizing Childhood Emotional Abuse |
In 2008, approximately 55,196 children faced rejection, isolation, verbal assault, and terror within the privacy of their homes. Difficult to detect, emotional abuse can go on for years and negatively impact a victim’s psychological and physical health, as well as their social and cognitive development. As a public health issue that comes at a significant cost to both individuals and society, emotional abuse of children needs to be addressed. This is why I will be introducing a resolution that recognizes the scope and effects of childhood emotional abuse. My hope is that increased awareness will be the first step to affecting lasting policy change that keeps these children safer. Please join me in supporting a healthier, safer future for one of Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable populations by co-sponsoring this resolution. |
