MEMORANDUM

From: Representative Parke Wentling
To: All House members
Subject: Proposed Resolution – Honoring the Sons of the American Revolution and Designating October 15th, 2018 as “Sons of the American Revolution Day in Pennsylvania”

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution honoring the Sons of the American Revolution and designate October 15th, 2018 as “Sons of the American Revolution Day in Pennsylvania.”

With the Battle of Yorktown and the final surrender taking place between September 28th and October 19th of 1781, October was a decisive month for the Continental Army and the Nation. The Sons of the American Revolution have a long history and were first organized on April 30, 1889 by the Sons of Revolutionary Sires, an organization desired to keep alive their ancestors' story of patriotism and courage.

Over the years, the organization grew in numbers and stature, the ranks of which would go on to include sixteen presidents. The Sons of the American Revolution is the largest male lineage organization in the United States consisting of 50 societies with more than 500 local chapters, several international societies and over 34,000 members. Their mission is to inspire communities across the country with the principles the Nation was founded on. Historical preservation plays a huge part in this goal. This preservation is achieved through commemorating and providing memorials for the people and events of the American Revolution, preserving records relating to the events leading up to and during the American Revolution, and many other ways.

Education is another way that the Sons of the American Revolution try to inspire the community with the principles on which our nation was founded. Sponsorships for youth awards programs, the distribution of history curriculum and educational media resources, and the operation of the Genealogical Research Library are all ways that the Sons of the American Revolution work to education the community around them.

The principles that this country was founded upon cannot be forgotten. They need to be remembered, preserved and followed today if we as a Nation are to continue to grow and prosper. The Sons of the American Revolution have been and continue to play a crucial role in the preservation of these principles.

I would greatly appreciate your support of this resolution. Thank you very much for your consideration.

**Additionally, I would like to recognize all House Members who are Members of The Sons of the American Revolution during my House Floor remarks.
