Subject: | Honoring the Life and Legacy of H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest |
Throughout his life, Harold FitzGerald “Gerry” Lenfest served as a leader in the preservation of Philadelphia’s cultural, educational, and media institutions by supporting and serving 1,100 organizations in his lifetime with his wife, Marguerite. In addition to donating millions to, and raising matching donations for, various universities and cultural organizations like the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Curtis Institute of Music, the Lenfests were integral to the survival of the Pulitzer prize-winning Inquirer and Daily News. To this day, the generosity of Gerry Lenfest can be felt by many, as the Lenfest Foundation will be distributing its remaining assets to youth, education, and career development programs over the next decade. On Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the age of 88, Gerry Lenfest passed away. He is survived by his wife, children, four grandchildren, and siblings. As such, we as fellow Pennsylvanians should honor the life, legacy, and contributions of this great philanthropist to the Commonwealth. Please join me in paying tribute to a life that has impacted countless others by co-sponsoring this legislation. |
