Subject: | Resolution – Honoring Members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. |
In the near future, we will be introducing a resolution recognizing the sorority Delta Sigma Theta on the occasion of Delta Day at the State Capitol in Harrisburg. This year, Delta Day will occur on May 22, 2018. The Delta Sigma Theta sorority was founded in 1913 by 22 collegiate women on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Those women wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to those in need. Today, Delta Sigma Theta is the largest African-American women’s organization in the United States. For more than a century, the sorority has worked to follow the principles of community development, social and political action, and educational and professional advancement through service, leadership, and empowerment. Each year on Delta Day at the State Capitol, Delta Sigma Theta members from throughout Pennsylvania come to the Capitol in order to connect with elected officials, advance legislation, and serve as a voice for others. The women of Delta Sigma Theta continue to be magnificent examples of servant-leaders with their commitment to their communities. Following the lead of the members of Delta Sigma Theta, we believe it is important that we, as legislators, do our part to promote the values of social activism, academic excellence, and civic engagement. To that end, please join us as a sponsor of this legislation. |
