Subject: Co-Sponsorship: Resolution recognizing April 7, 2018 as “World Health Day” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing April 7, 2018 as “World Health Day” in Pennsylvania.

As you may know, “World Health Day” annually elaborates on the global health priorities of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations. April 7 is the date of the WHO’s founding in 1948 and is set aside for the global observance of “World Health Day” to mobilize action around a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world. The theme for the 2018 World Health Day is “Health for All -- Universal Health Coverage.”

The World Health Organization was founded on the principle that all people should be able to realize their right to the highest possible level of health. Health for all has been the WHO’s guiding vision for more than seven decades. Countries that invest in UHC make a sound investment in their human capital. Access to essential quality care and financial protection not only enhances people’s health and life expectancy, it also protects countries from epidemics, reduces poverty and the risk of hunger, creates jobs, drives economic growth and enhances gender equality.

Here at home, we must do what is necessary to ensure that every citizen of this great Commonwealth is insured and has access to quality affordable healthcare. In essence, getting hurt or sick is not something any person wants to happen, however unexpected medical events do occur. It is incumbent on us as Legislators to help our constituents navigate the financial hurdles that may accompany these medical situations.

As such, it is for these reasons and more that I am introducing this Resolution. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important Resolution. If you have any questions, please contact my Research Analyst -- Takesha Latham at 717-772-9850 or via email at tlatham@pahouse.net.
