| In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution, along with the other co-chairs of the House Life Sciences Caucus, to designate the week of April 15 through 21, 2018, as “Pittsburgh Life Sciences Week 2018” in Pennsylvania. This week will recognize the importance of life sciences to our well-being and to our economy and commend the University of Pittsburgh for its role in promoting and advancing life sciences. The life sciences are the branches of science that deal with living organisms and life processes, including fields such as biology, medicine, biotechnology, and many more. Pennsylvania – and Pittsburgh, in particular – is an international leader in life sciences research and development, innovation, investment, and patenting, employing more than 78,000 Pennsylvanians. The Commonwealth’s position at the global forefront of the life sciences is owed, in part, to the academic and research programs at its world-class colleges and universities like the University of Pittsburgh. This April, the University of Pittsburgh is hosting the second annual “Pittsburgh Life Sciences Week” to celebrate the members of this vital community and create a platform for them to network and collaborate. Please join the co-chairs of the House Life Sciences Caucus in commending the leadership and planners of “Pittsburgh Life Sciences Week 2018” on their work to showcase and strengthen the greater Pittsburgh area’s role in the Commonwealth’s life sciences community by cosponsoring this resolution to designate the week of April 15 through 21, 2018, as “Pittsburgh Life Sciences Week 2018” in Pennsylvania. |
