Subject: | COSP-JSGC Task Force to Study Mental Health System for the Young |
In the near future I intend to introduce a resolution calling on the Joint State Government Commission to convene an advisory committee of experts and stakeholders to study the diagnostic and treatment systems currently available for people with mental health concerns who are under the age of 21. Gun violence in the form of mass shootings, particularly in school settings, tells me that we should examine the mental health system to determine if needs are going unmet. A related study for the adult population was undertaken back in 2014, and I believe it is time we bring our focus to bear on the needs of young people. My resolution will seek a report of findings and recommendations to be presented to the General Assembly within one year of its adoption. Please join me in co-sponsorship of this study. |
