MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 27, 2018 04:17 PM
From: Representative Tina M. Davis
To: All House members
Subject: Gift Ban for Members of the General Assembly

In the near future, I plan to introduce companion legislation to Senate Bill 734 (Brewster) to prohibit members of the General Assembly from accepting or soliciting gifts and items that have monetary value.

As you know, concerns have been raised regarding elected officials accepting or soliciting cash and other gifts of monetary value. It is my opinion that these gifts should be banned for all members of the General Assembly so as not to create any conflicts of interest.

It is the duty of all members of the General Assembly to put the best interests of their constituents first. This legislation recognizes that obligation by eliminating the possibility of outside parties offering gifts in exchange for professional or political gain.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislative initiative. Your support and consideration are most appreciated.

Introduced as HB2100
