Subject: | Designating March 14, 2018, as “Saquon Barkley Day” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating March 14, 2018, as “Saquon Barkley Day” in Pennsylvania. Saquon Barkley was born in The Bronx, New York, on February 7, 1997. Four years later, he moved to Pennsylvania with his parents, Alibay Barkley and Tonya Johnson, and siblings. Barkley loved football from his early childhood and went on to play high school football at Whitehall High School in Lehigh County. In 2014, he was named Mr. PA Football and enrolled at the Pennsylvania State University as a four-star recruit the next year. As a true freshman in 2015, Barkley broke Penn State’s freshman rushing record and was named a first-team Freshman All-American. Barkley went on to rush for 3,843 yards and 43 touchdowns in three seasons at Penn State. He finished his college career as Penn State’s second all-time leading rusher, and as the school’s all-time leader in yards from scrimmage and rushing touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2016, Barkley helped lead Penn State to the school’s fourth Big Ten Championship and first since 2008. As a junior, Barkley showed off his versatility by nearly doubling his reception total from the previous season, returning two kickoffs for touchdowns, and even passing for a touchdown. In recognition of this versatility, Barkley won the Paul Hornung Award in 2017 and was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American that same year. Barkley’s illustrious college football career ended when he declared for the upcoming 2018 National Football League draft following Penn State’s victory in the 2017 Fiesta Bowl. During his three years at Penn State, Barkley has been widely recognized for his commitment, service, and leadership, both on and off the field. Penn State fans will not soon forget his contributions to the team and the university. Please join me as a co-sponsor of this resolution honoring Saquon Barkley’s accomplishments. |
