Subject:	Co-Sponsorship: Resolution recognizing the month of January 2018 as “National Mentoring Month” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I plan to introduce a Resolution recognizing the month of January 2018 as “National Mentoring Month” in Pennsylvania. As you know, mentoring is a proven, effective strategy that helps children and young adults by matching them with caring, responsible adults who can provide guidance and direction and build their confidence. In addition, research shows that mentoring has beneficial and long term effects on youths by increasing academic engagement and decreasing the likelihood of substance abuse and other risky behaviors. Finally, National Mentoring Month is an opportunity to raise public awareness of the importance of mentoring and to recognize the dedicated individuals who serve as mentors. With that said, I am proud to offer this Resolution and invite I you to join me by co-sponsoring this measure.
