House of Representatives
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 26, 2017 10:16 AM
From: Representative Ryan E. Mackenzie
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Recognizing December 3, 2017 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities

I will soon be introducing a Resolution to designate December 3, 2017 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities to raise awareness of the goal of full and equal enjoyment of human rights and participation in society by individuals with disabilities. This year’s theme is “transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all”.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities has been recognized around the globe since 1992. It promotes the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities in all societies and increases the awareness of the situation of disabled persons in every aspect of life.

Individuals with disabilities face physical, social, and economic barriers that can make it challenging for them to fully participate as equal members of society around the world. More than 15% of the world’s population are currently living with disabilities. Recognizing December 3, 2017 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities here in Pennsylvania solidifies our goal to assist the most vulnerable citizens in our community.

Please join me in recognizing all individuals with disabilities by co-sponsoring this Resolution.
